Company History
AVC Hearing Aid Center, Inc. was started by Peter A. Meci & Bette Lee Meci in 1972. When we started our business our prime objective was to give good service and the best hearing instrumentation on the market.
The first hearing aids we fit were mainly the old body aids and behind-the-ear (BTE). When president Regan was fit with the first in-the-ear (ITE) hearing aid, our market changed drastically. Today we fit many different styles, the smallest being the Oto-Lens (Invisible-In-The-Canal) digital fully programmable hearing aid.
At one time Peter & Bette were very involved in the Capitol District Hearing Aid Society and New York State. Peter Meci was on the Board of the International Hearing Society and was responsible for helping our industry with the proposals he made and ideas he helped implement. He was very well known in the industry for his work, knowledge, rules and regulations of our industry. Peter passed on in 2005.
We’ve come a long way as a family business. Our son Norman V. Meci joined our business and is our hearing instrument specialist for the past 30 years. At one time we had 5 offices in the county but eventually decided to concentrate on Middletown and Newburgh. Bette Lee now works 3 days a week.
